Welcome to the Sunday Dish!
Spring is knocking on our door and I couldn’t be more excited about it! We had a stretch of gorgeous bluebird days, then a temperature plummet, and now we’re moderating again–hopefully the coldest of the cold is gone until next year. (Of course, we have pollen bombs to look forward to, but at least it brings a whole lot of beauty with it.) I’ve been spending my days hemming my den curtains (long story), walking the dog, shuttling my daughters to and fro, doing some barre and pilates (which I’m loving), and turning over a few story ideas in my mind. It’s always the warm weather–as soon as it starts getting warm, the story gears in my mind start turning and I’m seeing settings, characters, new possibilities. What about you? What does the warmer weather make you feel like doing?

I picked up this book by Katherine Center after listening to an interview with her on the Amwriting podcast. (I’ll link it here.) I don’t know her but I wish I did. She seems like such an optimistic sparkle of a person. I loved what she had to say about finding her own writer voice and the types of books she likes to write and read. I’m still in chapter one of WHAT YOU WISH FOR (I was really tired when I went to bed!) but it pulled me in pretty quickly.

Book I have my eye on…

Kimberly Brock’s THE LOST BOOK OF ELEANOR DARE comes out April 12 and I can’t wait to read it! It weaves American and Virginia history with a family legacy, sacrificial love, and a multi-generation mystery. And best of all—Kimberly will be the focus of my next Bookish People interview on Sunday, March 27!

A few links for you…

Did y’all see this video of the news reporter in Ohio whose mom embarrassed him by driving by while he was working on a live shot? It’s hilarious and so cute.

As if Dolly needed to add something else to her impressive resume, now she’s gone and written a book! Dolly Parton has teamed up with James Patterson to write a mystery set in Nashville.

On a more serious note, people in Poland are leaving baby clothes, diapers, toys, strollers, and child car seats in train stations for Ukrainians who are fleeing their country. These strangers know there are so many mothers who have fled with nothing but their children, and they’re trying to lighten the burden just a little. I can’t get the images of the strollers lined up waiting for new children out of my head. It’s such a beautiful picture of people helping in the worst of times.

That’s all from me today. I hope it’s getting warm wherever you are. And check in if you can. I’d love to know where you’re reading this from and what’s going on with you!

    Lauren,

Thanks so much for catching us up on what’s happening with you. I’m glad those ideas are spinning around in your head. I can’t wait to buy your next novel. I‘ve read all of the ones you’ve written so far. Again, this retired English teacher gives you an A plus for your writing. Your characters seem very real, and as a Christian, I appreciate that you keep them clean.

    Thanks,
    Stacey Patton Wallace

Dear Lauren- I just finished reading -The Summer House. It is the first book that I have read of yours. I loved it! I lived with the characters and was sad when it ended. Which brings me to my point…why don’t you write a sequel? What happens to Lily and Rawlins? Rose and Coach are just starting to have a promising relationship. What changes will Rawlins make in the family business? I have a dozen questions that must be answered! Please consider a sequel! Your fans want it!

Hi Anita! I would love to see what happens to the friends in Safe Harbor Village! I’m always trying to think of good ways to continue the story for my characters, though who knows if it’ll actually make it into book form. I’m so glad you enjoyed the story!
